I'm the great grand son of James A. Strickler and the great grand nephew of William L. Strickler, both early members of the unit. Both surviver the war. James stayed in Rockbridge County and married Margret McClung Templeton the widow of a member of the 2nd Rockbridge Artillery who was killed at Cross Keys. My grandfather, William L. Strickler was born in Walkers Creek, Rockbridge County in 1866.
Great site. I am a descendant of Lucas Pleasant Thompson, who served in the Rockbridge Artillery from 1861 and surrendered with the unit at Appomatix. I found your site while searching for informaiton in preparation for a family vacation where we will stop to see his grave in Lexington. I hope to see one of your reenactments sometime in the future.
Nice Site I am a confederate reenactor with the 33rd Va and have an ancestor (cpt John Gregory who was an ordinance Cpt in the unit. I saw Mathew Mark Luke and John at Lexington and you can just feel the electricty coming out of them when you touch them.

When I was at Wash & Lee in the 1980s, I did a senior project in connection with the Stonewall Jackson House Museum in Lex., Va., in which I organized and annotated a collection of wartime letters written by Thomas M. Wade. He was a member of the 1st Rockbridge Artillery throughout the war. There were (approx.) 25 letters, many of them quite detailed. If the members of this reeneactment unit have not seen them, they are worth looking at. Many researchers do not know about them because they have not been published.
Howdy!
I just started my research on the 1st Rockbridge Artillery, and found your site. I'm a descendent of several Agner's that fought with the originals. What are some good sources for info on the original outfit?
And, what do ya'll recommend for a reenactor uniform and firearms?
Thanks kindly,
